The Chrony
A Year as a Staff Writer for the Daily Utah Chronicle.
In 2015 I joined the staff of the Daily Utah Chronicle.
Known internally as "The Chrony," it was the official newspaper of the University of Utah. It was a fantastic opportunity to hone my writing and editing and delve into new, journalistic skills.
While most article topics were assigned to me, I was also able to do deep-dives on subjects of my choice and engage in research in depth. A university is a great place to practice journalism - there are constant events, studies being published, and if nothing else, an environment of learning and an ongoing exchange of opinions.
When presidential candidate Mitt Romney came to speak at the U, I was able to cover the event.
His speech was a controversial touchpoint of the 2016 campaign, and he directly denounced then-candidate Donald Trump.
It was a thrill to be in the press box with top news agencies from across the country. I live-tweeted the event, and had a quick turnaround to get the article on our online site where it garnered high views. My article was cited in several other publications, and I was invited on local radio station KRCL to discuss the speech on their RadioActive Program.
