In 2020, Industrial Supply began an ERP transition - an intensive process years in the making. As a result, their ecommerce website, Directools, would require significant back-end updates. It took this as an opportunity to update the user experience and visual design.
Year: 2020-2021
Client: Industrial Supply Company
Deliverables: UX Design, project management, iconography, logos, CSS
The site had existed for decades.
Tech debt was significant, and I would have to work within proscribed limits. I focused on simple updates that would improve the visual layout without overloading the developer, who was swamped with back-end updates.
Additionally, I remastered the logo in a vector format and created new icons and imagery for the site. I also leveraged increased product data to display more relevant information across the various products.
The layout was adjusted for better responsive design. Colors, type, and icons were also updated to the modern branding. The search bar increased prominence to aid navigation. Button sizes increased for better mobile usability, along with adjustments to margins and padding.
Search layout was reformatted into cards rather than a table. Higher-priority items were emphasized in layout hierarchy.
